16th Century Tub, Hund or Minecart Railways

Somewhere around 1568, German miners utilized tub railways to transport ore within the mines. The cart in the photo is from 16th century, found in Transylvania.

Archaeologists working in Caldbeck, England have unearthed track fragments confirming that wooden tubs called "hunds." The hunds moved on two wide boards or rails. The hunds used a guide pin system, utilising the slot between the two board rails to keep on course.
